The Kentucky Cycle: The Dark Side of the American Dream
Friday @ 7:00 p.m. at Bainbridge Public Library
Ralph Cheadle, retired Bainbridge High School American Studies teacher, and Kate Carruthers, director of the upcoming Bainbridge Performing Arts production of The Kentucky Cycle, discuss how the play both draws upon and illuminates 200 years of American history and mythology. The 1992 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Robert Schenkkan is the sweeping epic of three families in eastern Kentucky that spans American history from 1775 to 1975 and examines the myths of the American past that have created, for better or for worse, the country we are today.
BPA's outreach programs for The Kentucky Cycle are supported in part by a grant from Humanities Washington, a state-wide non-profit organization supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the state of Washington, and contributions from individuals and foundations.
